I’ve been asked to clear up some of the slang that the characters in Piggy Moto use, so here are a few of the most common terms you will hear through the story:
Banana: This means groovy or cool. It’s kind of like saying “Awesome!”
Green: This means cool like there is nothing wrong. “Everything’s okay” It’s also used to say “I understand,” or “No problem.”
L’ Pon: This is a general exclamation with no real translation.
Bugger: Used as a noun and a verb, this does not necessarilty refer to sodomy. It is used similarly to “screw it,” or “F off”, or “Jerk” / “@$$hole” when used as a nown.
Smeg / smegger: With filthy and disgusting roots, this term is used to express disdain, often replacing the “F” word in American English. “That Smegger,” or “Awe, Smeg it”
Schweinster: Think “N” word, for pigs. It’s a derrogatory, species discriminatory term.
Tapped / Nicked: Simmilar terms. To “nick” something means to steal / shoplift it, and to “tap” someone means to pick their pockets. Conversly, to be “nicked” means to be arrested by police.
Wilder / Noble Hog: there are generally two types of porcine individual where the main characters some from. For Wilders, think wild boars. Dark, bristly hide – big tusks and mohawk-like crests. Noble Hogs are more what you might find on a farm. They are pink-skinned, have sparce body hair, smaller tusks, and human-like manes of hair.
Weslayan / Imperial: Not so much slang, these terms refer to the Weslayan Empire, which neighbors Lancemyth to the west. Up until very recently, the Human-dominated Weslayan Empire waged war against Lancemyth, Palonia and the Faunatian Confederacy (from where our pigs come). “Weslayan” Typically refers to an unfriendly or potentially threatening human.
Simple: as in “the simple mouse”. This refers to an animal that is not sentient or anthropomorphic. Anastasia is a mouse, but her father’s grain silos might be infested by simple mice. Stookesburry is a buck, and King Loweman is a bull, but the meat that is served in many restaurants comes from simple deer and cattle.
Totem / Parent animal: This refers to the simple representitive of a person’s species. For our main characters, their parent animals would be swine as we know them on earth. Some believe that there is a special connection between people and their parent animals, so people will often do what they can to protect their totems. I.E. Piggy Moto dont eat pork (rindswurst is all beef) and Stookesburry will never serve local venison (Nordanian Venison is actually elk – not deer) etc.
Cannibalism: Again, not slang, but worth noting that it is considered caniballism to eat any sentient flesh. So, no, the anthropomorphic cats in my world do not eat the anthropomorphic mice. Then again, I’d like to see them TRY to take a bite out of Anastasia.
Pagan / Contrived gods: Well, more non-slang, and not a huge part of the story, but it comes up here and there. Pagan gods are gods of nature who are believed to have existed for as long as the world itself. (god of the winds, god of the seas, etc) Contrived gods are believed to have sprung from mortals or from mortal acts. (Kamerdann, human god of civilization and order, Grehalia, Bovine goddess of guardians and mothers)
